You're a proud owner of one of these fantastic PowerBooks and a docking cable, and you're using it often. But what, after somebody else mounted your harddisk he immediately moves your icons from their original place to somewhat and destroys your in-years-build desktop!!
Has Apple forgot something??
Yep! And here it is: ILKA
Ilka does a quite simple but effective job: it hides all files on the desktop, you can dock/mount the volume and after work is done you'll tell Ilka to show the files again. No cluttered desktop, no wasting hours with redragging your icons again!
How to use Ilka
You can start Ilka either by double-clicking it or dragging a volume-icon onto it.
In first case Ilka will ask you for every mounted volume to hide or to show the files inside the desktop folder, in second it will ask you only for the specified volume.
PLEASE NOTE: THE FINDER WILL ONLY NOTICE THE CHANGES AFTER MOUNTING THE VOLUME (E.G: RESTART)
Because of this, you should use Ilka like this:
- on your PB start Ilka and hide the desktop files
- shut down your PB
- dock your PB
- if you're ready just launch Ilka to show the files again
- undock your PB
- boot your PB
Requirements
Ilka is 32-bit clean, need about 30Kb RAM and works best with System 7 or 7.1 (pro) - in fact it will hide only files on desktops of these systems (there was no desktop folder before).
Ilka was tested on a Centris 650 and PowerBook 100 (simply the best ;-) .
